Considered to be the Winter Capital of Poland by many, Zakopane is a small, tranquil town with a bustling tourism industry. The town not only offers easy access to the nearby mountains, but also tons of attractions and local traditions to witness. Sounds fun? Here’s what you can expect on a Zakopane Tour!
Explore the gorgeous Tatra mountains from Zakopane
If you’ve never seen photos of the Polish mountains, you’re missing out - many consider them to be among the most picturesque mountains in the world, even though they aren’t the tallest ones. Whether you’re into winter sports, hiking, or simply sipping a drink from a hotel room with a gorgeous view - Zakopane is one of the best spots for all of that.
Two gorgeous mountains are in close vicinity to the city. Giewont, with almost 2km of height above sea level, is the more spectacular of the two. It’s said to resemble a sleeping knight and features an enormous steel cross on its peak - a frequent destination of local pilgrimages and a famous worship site. The other mountain, Gubałówka, offers an easy to access cable railway system that will take you to the top - perfect if you want to see spectacular views, but don’t particularly like long and difficult hikes.
Experience the unique local folklore on a Zakopane Tour
A proper Zakopane Tour will take you along the small streets of this quaint little town, filled with rich and vibrant culture. Zakopane is full of local mountaineers in their traditional outfits, along with folklore music filling every restaurant and pub. Remember to try the local cuisine - Zakopane region is famous for its variety of smoked cheeses made from sheep milk, as well as its traditional hearty soups. If you’re into pub crawling, we recommend trying some of the local “nalewka” - a strong alcohol infused with regional herbs and fruits.
